“Gendermen – How to Involve Men in Gender Issues and Get Their Support” is a project co-funded by the Erasmus Plus programme (Key Action 2: Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices) within which CEIPES participated as a partner, together with the adult tertiary education institute Skola Dante (Croatia), under the coordination of the association Klub Personalistu Moravy in Slezska (Czech Republic).
The primary aim of the project is to create pathways and procedures that promote the involvement of men in gender issues and action programmes that focus on achieving equal opportunities.
On 22 October 2021, in the setting of the former Church of San Mattia ai Crociferi in the historic district of Kalsa in Palermo, the final event of the project took place, with the participation of three speakers expert in the subject of the project.
Augusto Cavadi, a member of the association “Noi Uomini a Palermo contro la Violenza sulle Donne”, Gabriele Guadagna, an activist of the Mica Macho community, born out of the need to rethink masculinity in the 21st century to allow men to regain possession of their subjectivity and free themselves from gender stereotypes, and Claudia Fauzia, known as La Malafimmina, an economist and expert in gender studies from Palermo, shared their thoughts on the project’s topics with the audience.
We lived an important moment, which allowed us to discuss the path made from 2019 to date, as well as the motivations that gave birth to GENDERMEN, which arose from real needs expressed at European level and, more acutely, in the member countries of the partnership.
However, the end of the project does not mean the end of the debate. On the contrary, the multiplier event was an opportunity to give even more substance to the confrontation that had arisen between the different parties, who brought different requests and points of view.
