On 8 and 9 September 2021, the Transnational Meeting of the TRAINING TO WIN – BMX project (622085-EPP-1-2020-1-ES-SPO-SCP) was held in Anadia (Portugal).

The project, co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Sport CP programme, pursues the following objectives:

  • Design an integral BMX training course for trainers and coaches, based on evidence and scientific studies
  • Promote the benefits (physical, mental and socio-relational) of BMX for children and young people
  • Stimulate dual careers for BMX riders, supporting their professional and educational development

During the two-day meeting, the partners tackled several issues, including: the completion of monitoring questionnaires; financial issues; communication and dissemination of the project.

Partners also discussed the progress of the project’s IOs: Questionnaire on BMX Training Needs (IO1) and Test Battery (IO2).

The first Multiplier Event of the Training to WIN – BMX project, held in Anadia on 6 and 7 September, focused on the safety of BMX athletes. Studies were conducted on athletes from different countries at the high-performance centre in Anadia (Portugal). In particular, BMX athletes of different categories and from different European countries carried out physical, performance and psychological tests.

During the meeting, the partners evaluated the progress of the Training Safe seminar also held on the previous days. The international Training Safe seminar aims to generate new knowledge and disseminate good practices on the topic of training in sport. In particular, lectures, panel discussions and workshops were held on safety, suitability of training loads, first aid and training evaluation.

The seminar was addressed to athletes, BMX riders, coaches and families.

You can view the content produced and the speakers’ presentations at the International Seminar on Training Safe at the following link.

Finally, the consortium discussed dissemination strategies at local and European level. The aim of the project is to make more people aware of the world of BMX by using social networks and national and international ambassadors.

Finally, the next steps of the project have been planned, such as the BMX Ecosystem Workshop to be held in Zaragoza (Spain) during the first quarter of 2022.
