CHED – The chess platform for deaf people is in progress

On 26th and 27th May 2022 the Consortium of the project CHED: Chess Platform for Deaf People (613577-EPP-1-2019-1-RO-SPO-SCP) met for second time in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) to discuss the project process.

With the purpose to support sport activities of disabled people, to promote the social inclusion and the elimination of the existing barriers to mass sports for deaf people, the project aims to propose an interactive and non-formal online platform for learning chess. It will contain video in the sign languages of the different countries of the partnership, in order to be adapted for deaf people and to increase their self-confidence and emancipation.

Besides CEIPES, the Consortium is composed by associations with a strong expertise and social impact in the field of the deafness and disability, such as:

  • The Institutul Postliceal Phoenix of Romania (project coordinator);
  • The Deaf Sport Club “The Silence” of Romania, focused on social integration and health for people with hearing disabilities;
  • The Sinop Spastic Children Association of Turkey;
  • The Landward Research Teoranta (Ireland);
  • IT SOLUTION (Armenia);
  • KET (Greece);
  • Center of Education and Support “RES-GEST” (Poland).

During the meeting, the partners discussed about the project steps, the state of art of the intellectual outputs and of the video shooting, its translation of scenarios, subtitles and contents. The production of courses, divided in initiation, basic, intermediate and advanced levels, has already been started with the sign language interpreters and it’s progressing quickly. To reach the quality of the products, the partners met the chess trainer Alin, in order to evaluate the contents of videos.

In addition, the Institutul Postliceal Phoenix of Romania presented the EU platform for chess, training the participants to use it. After that, they visited the partner site of the Deaf Sport Club “The Silence”, which showed the various sport activities carried out and their importance in the disability field.

As next step, the partners will meet again in June right in Palermo, at CEIPES offices for the third Transnational Meeting!
