INCLU-AGEING – The collaboration with the Municipality of Palermo to support ageing adults and their caregivers

In a world where the population is rapidly ageing, ensuring the well-being and inclusion of elderly and adults with disabilities becomes increasingly paramount. That’s why CEIPES was protagonist of a conference held in collaboration with the municipality of Palermo on the 9th of April, to discuss these topics under the line of innovation and role of the municipality of Palermo with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders.

In fact, at the heart of this conference was the unveiling of the Erasmus+ Inclu-Ageing Project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to support and empower both ageing individuals with and without disabilities and those taking care of them, together with the topic of personal family care loads, equal opportunities and the urgency of administrative and bureaucratic support for family carers.

The conference purpose was to explore innovative approaches to enhance the quality of life for ageing adults and promote inclusivity within the community. Participants gathered to share insights, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships to address the challenges of an ageing society in the Sicilian stage.

This Inclu-ageing project presentation encompassed various components, including:

1. Educational Programs: Developing educational materials and workshops to address ageing-related issues and promote intergenerational understanding, as the Toolkit and the Parental Education Guidebook

2. Digital Solutions: Implementing innovative technological tools to facilitate communication, access to resources, and remote assistance for ageing adults and their caregivers, as the educational videos.

3. Learning Engagement: Establishing learning hub and support networks where caregivers can take advantage of tools, strategies and resources.

4. Caregiver Support: Providing training, resources, and respite services to support caregivers in their crucial role and prevent caregiver burnout, as well as the knowledge of the international and national laws supporting them and people with disabilities.

During the conference, CEIPES unveiled the Inclu-ageing project’s goals, strategies, and anticipated impact. Attendees were invited to explore interactive demonstrations, engage in discussions, and provide feedback to shape the project’s implementation in the local context. The presentation was met with enthusiasm and support from conference participants, who recognized the urgency of addressing the evolving needs of ageing adults in their community.

The unveiling of the Erasmus+ Inclu-Ageing Project marked a significant milestone in Palermo’s efforts to support ageing adults and their caregivers. By harnessing the collective expertise and resources of network in Sicily, a part of Palermo is trying to become a model city for age-friendly initiatives, fostering a culture of inclusivity, dignity, and respect for all generations.
