GAMEUFYING – NextGen Simulation: learning about Europe through role playing!

GamEUfying project has recently accomplished one of its main results, demonstrating once again the great potential of gamification in supporting both formal and non-formal education.

In the month of February, youth participants from Spain, Portugal and Italy, took part in a three-day training activity in the beautiful city of Valladolid, Spain. The encounter was organized by the GamEUfying consortium formed by the Youth Council of Castilla y Leon, ASPAYM, Rosto Solidario and CEIPES.

Using the technique of role-playing, participants put on the shoes of European Parliamentarians and Ministers of the Council of the EU for doing a simulation in which they have followed the steps of the ordinary legislative procedure of the EU.

Youngsters worked in the preparation of amendments for two different proposals, one related with artificial intelligence and the other with human rights protection. In this way, participants have learned more about the functioning of the EU and some of its main institutions while coming closer to European affairs and topics of great contemporary relevance. In addition, this has been a great opportunity for intercultural exchange as well as for training diverse skills such as team working, critical thinking or public speaking.

With this activity, GamEUfying project has reaffirmed its commitment with the promotion of active citizenship among European youngsters through the great benefits of gamification.
