UPSKILLING VET

Partners met for the first time in Palermo

Partners, coming from different countries, participated in the first meeting face to face of the project Upskilling VET institutions and healthcare professionals on promoting gender equality in healthcare provision (2022-1-NO01-KA220-VET-000088213) hosted in Palermo, by CEIPES.

They discussed project management, how to organise the different tasks and distribute them equally among the partners. Furthermore, they focused on the initial activities that are already underway. In general, what is noted is that women have a longer life expectancy at birth, at European level women live six years longer than men (84 years versus 78), but 33% of women, compared to 28% of men, do not consider themselves to be in good health. This assumption arises many questions.

Hence, aiming to tackles gender equality in healthcare provision, the project foresees as first the national research, therefore each partner studied the local context, finding out a big gap between women and men in the healthcare system.

Furthermore, in the health care system the gap is related to management, payment, and access to healthcare. In addition, women patients have to wait longer time for diagnosis and therefore for treatment. Besides, it is very common that women symptoms are not taken seriously into account by doctors, since woman body has not been studied as much as man’s body.

The aim of the first activities is to collect all the information needed in order to develop a Capacity building program for VET providers with the purpose of adjusting current curricula on gender equality.

The meeting was a great opportunity to strengthen the cooperation between partner countries and to talk about the first steps of the project.
