COL.D.D – Handbook for Dementia and Depression Prevention

The Erasmus+ SCP project COL.D.D – Cold Water Swimming for the Prevention of Dementia and Depression consortium is thrilled to announce the publication of the “COL.D.D Handbook”.

This significant deliverable is the result of a collaborative effort by partners from ENALMH (Belgium), CEIPES ETS (Italy), IEC (Austria), PK Zagreb (Croatia), and Shut up and Swim (Czech Republic).

The project aims to promote inclusion and diversity by engaging isolated adults, particularly those from vulnerable groups, in outdoor activities. By encouraging a healthy lifestyle through cold-water swimming, it seeks to explore and harness this method’s potential in preventing and treating depression and dementia.

In the initial months of the project’s implementation, the partners have been collecting best practices in cold-water swimming, breath control, and mindfulness for their health benefits.

These practices have been synthesized, adapted, and translated into the consortium’s languages, including French, Italian, Croatian, Austrian, and Czech. This rigorous process has led to the creation of the “COL.D.D Handbook”, now available for download here.

The Handbook is an invaluable resource, providing comprehensive background information on dementia and depression. It includes a collection of best practices for preventing and treating these conditions using the project’s three methods: cold-water swimming, breath control, and mindfulness.

Additionally, it features a self-help guide for individuals to use these best practices independently and a workshop plan for professionals working with adults at risk of depression.
