CIRCULAR SCHOOLS – Advancing Circular Education during a Strategic Meeting in Slovakia

On June 25 and 26, the Circular Schools Consortium met in Leopoldov, Slovakia, for its second transnational project meeting. Hosted by Živá Záhrada (Slovakia) and attended by representatives from PII (Czech Republic), INPRO (Czech Republic), AINNOVA (Portugal) and CEIPES ETS (Italy), the meeting provided an excellent opportunity to review the progress of the project and strategically plan future activities.

During the meeting, the partners discussed the overall progress of the project, with the coordinating partner, PII, leading the presentation. This session covered key aspects of project management and finances, highlighting the timely progress of the project and upcoming reporting schedules. The discussion then shifted to the second work package, “The Future is Circular”, led by INPRO. In this session, partners presented innovative approaches to circularity in schools in their respective countries, including healthy and sustainable cooking, sustainable transportation, and solar energy learning activities. The session concluded with a forward-looking discussion on conclusions, recommendations and next steps to complete the work package.

Regarding the next activities, partners discussed the “The Future is Inclusive: Classroom Toolbox” work package. This session focused on the development of well-structured activity sheets to support teachers. The partners then shared successful examples of activity sheets, thus fostering a joint discussion on effective pedagogical tools.

In addition, as part of the transnational meeting, partners visited a best practice primary school in Leopoldov. The site visit provided a practical demonstration of successful circular economy practices in an educational setting, with rainwater retention measures, a vegetable and herb garden, and an outdoor classroom.
