CEIPES is happy to announce that we have organized and successfully completed the Italian Multiplier Event for the “BioS4YOU – Bio-Inspired STEM Themes to involve the younger generations”.

BioS4You project – number: 2019-1-DEO3-KA201-060125 – is funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, KA201 – Strategic Partnerships for school education and it involves 5 partners from different countries: Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany), CEIPES – Centro Internazionale per la promozione dell’educazione e lo sviluppo (Italy), Unipa – Università degli studi di Palermo (Italy), ADYMEM – Adıyaman Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü (Turkey), KTU – Kaunas University of technology (Lithuania).

Young students (14-18 years; generation Z) are more connected and more attentive to the environment and social issues as well as psycho-physical well-being, compared to “millennials”. The BioS4YOU project aims to involve new generations (through forms of formal, non-formal education and active learning activities) in the study of scientific subjects (STEM field), starting from current topics of interest to them, such as social impact and environmental aspects of new technologies (BioSciences, Bio-Engineering, Bio-Architecture, Bio Technology, Bio-Photonics, etc.). Within the project, a European network of teachers will be created who will compare ideas, practices, methods in order to develop innovative learning paths for students on these specific topics, disseminate and put them into practice.

Furthermore, it is hoped that the teachers who took part in the project will be able to support students and raise their awareness of bio-inspired technologies as a tool to build a better future, encouraging the study of STEM disciplines and making their choice of a more aware and responsible university and consequently work career.

The multiplier event that took place on Tuesday 20th of April 2020 from 3.30 to 6.00 pm and had 35 participants, had the objective to present the project, its results and the methodology used to write the units to the stakeholders, that is to all STE(A)M teachers and to help them with the use of the e-learning platform.

The event consisted of three moments:
1) Presentation of the BioS4YOU project and IO1’s results
2) Presentation of the methodology for the creation of the teaching / learning units;
3) Presentation of the e-learning platform and workshop on the platform.

The event was very important to spread the results of the partners’ research and to make everyone aware of the importance of the involvement of the young generations and especially girls to the STEAM subjects as a great value for the economies of the different countries involved and for the whole world.
