Training and development of relational and psychosocial skills for coaches

Duration days / hours : 3 days / 18 hours

The training course can be funded by Erasmus+ KA1 programme (staff mobility).

Ad hoc training courses on the soft skills of the coach’s work in the management of athletes and the team starting from the development of the coaches’ expertise and relational skills. A particular focus will be placed on the development of: effective communication, leadership management, group motivation and emotion management.

 Field consultancy and coaching for technical staff are the starting point for the training of sports technicians in the management of young athletes, whose optimal management cannot fail to take into account their overall growth needs.

The course therefore aims to train coaches on the importance of psychosocial aspects such as awareness, trust, commitment, autonomy, planning skills and a sense of responsibility. Coaches should in fact encourage the development of mental skills in athletes that are useful for learning, for performance but also for the management of the school and personal life of young athletes.

The training course will consist of theoretical modules and practical activities and exercises that will help participants to implement and experience the skills learned.

  • Develop a 360 ° vision on young athletes, considering their social, relational and emotional development connected to the technical sports one
  • Understand how to foster the development of soft skills in young athletes
  • Acquire new practical working tools
  • Greater awareness of the relational dynamics present within the youth teams
  • Knowledge and understanding of the development phases of an athlete, the challenges and requests with which he interfaces, the resources he puts on the field and the key figures that come into play during the athlete’s sports and personal development path
  • Mastery of new work tools to be used in the field

Coaches and future coaches of different sports (individual and team)

Day 1 – The role of the coach

The figure of the coach: the importance of his role and doing the best for the enhancement of athletes

The Holistic – Ecological approach: the figures who play a key role in the 360 ​​° development of athletes (sports, relational, social, etc.). How to collaborate and cooperate effectively?

The athlete and his transitions: sporting and extra sporting challenges, how to effectively support an athlete?

Day 2 – Soft skills

Theoretical introduction on soft skills, why is it important to encourage their development in youth sports contexts?

In particular, we will work through practical exercises and non-formal education methods on:

  • Effective communication
  • Leadership
  • Motivation
  • Management of emotions
  • Goal setting

Day 3 – the importance of teamwork

Team-Building: how an intervention is structured through a practical case of work within a team

Collective assessment tools and intervention techniques

The lenght and the contents of the programmes can be modified according to the needs, more details will be given to interested organizations. Certificate of attendance by CEIPES will be awarded. If within the Erasmus+ programme, an EUROPASS certificate of attendance and competence will be awarded.

The programme, on request and with an extracharge, may include Italian classes, cultural activities, organization of board and lodging.
