Teaching and Learning Online – New Tools and Possibilities

The training course can be funded by Erasmus+ KA1 programme (staff mobility).

The aim of this course is to introduce educators to theory, methods, and tools that will improve their approach to distance teaching/learning. The importance of these tools in the digital age cannot be overestimated – especially in situations where access to face-to-face learning is difficult or not possible. While distance learning has its challenges, new tools and strategies have been developed to improve the learning experience, and this course will make educators aware of some of the most useful of them, and equip these educators with the skills to use the tools in an effective and fun way.

To introduce educators to different types of digital tools to improve distance learning outcomes:

  • Sharing thoughts and experiences about distance learning – needs, challenges, and issues.
  • Introducing eductors to some of the main tools available
  • Exploring these tools
  • Helping educators become competent in the use of these tools

Knowledge of the different tools available to assist the distance learning process (organising, timetabling, sharing materials, presenting, conducting fun activities, etc.) Competence in the use of online tools.

  • Teachers who want improve their teaching tools; 
  • Youth workers who want improve their way of involving kids in new opportunities; 
  • Educators who want to improve their educational tools;
  • Employers who want to improve their working environment

DAY ONE – Background

Introductory presentations – who are the participants and what are their motivations?

What are participants’ experiences with distance learning/teaching – what are some of the pros and cons, challenges and difficulties associated with it?

Theoretical background – why do we need distance learning? What purpose does it serve? How can it be useful in the world? In which kinds of situations could it be useful?

What are the psychological aspects of distance learning? What are the positive and negative psychological aspects? How can we address the negative aspects? How can we expand the positive ones?

DAY TWO – Methods & Tools part I

Organisational tools:

Calendars, meeting tools, and planning tools: what are they and how to use them. 

Creative tools: animation, graphical design – for both youth and teachers to use. 

Strategies to improve the learning process:

Inclusion in online lessons

Participation in online lessons

DAY THREE – Methods & Tools part II

Presentation tools: presenting, brainstorming, visualising – what are the tools and how to use them.

Learning material tools: course platforms (like coursera and EdX), and video material (like TED-Ed)

Assessment tools: quizzes and tests – what tools there are and how to use them.

Evaluation – sharing ideas and experiences from the course.

The lenght and the contents of the programmes can be modified according to the needs, more details will be given to interested organizations. Certificate of attendance by CEIPES will be awarded. If within the Erasmus+ programme, an EUROPASS certificate of attendance and competence will be awarded.

The programme, on request and with an extracharge, may include Italian classes, cultural activities, organization of board and lodging.
