Our EVS in Vitorchiano: A mid-training evaluation in the mountain.

Between 26-29 September, our volunteers, Jesus and Eva, attended their mid-evaluation training in Vitorchiano (Lazio). Funded by Agenzia Nazionale Italiana and as part of the EVS they are doing in our country, in this training they have had the opportunity to evaluate the experience they are living as volunteers in Palermo, within the Erasmus + program. Here we leave their reflections on those days:

“We arrived in Vitorchiano last September 26th, after a bus picked all volunteers up from Orte station and took us to a small hotel at the foot of a mountain. Our first impression is that it would be boring to spend those days so far away from everything, but it turned out to be an ideal place to fellowship with the rest of the volunteers and take some time to reflect on our EVS experience.

After the typical presentation activities, we began a series of exercises to assess the past, present and future of this experience of knowledge and interculturality that is EVS. Our fears upon arrival in Italy, our confusion with cultural shock, and how we were slowly solving problems and ended up becoming one more in our host communities. In addition, as many still have many months before returning home, we take the opportunity to set some goals to focus on, both socially, as well as personal and professional. There is no time to lose.

Although this training focused on a mainly theoretical self-assessment, we also had time to have fun making videos about “The EVS Hero”, to learn a little more about Italian culture with a little game, and even make a short trip to Vitorchiano and enjoy its wonderful historical center.

In short, some wonderful days in which to continue knowing yourself, Italy and people from all over Europe.”
