Europe and Disability – Reports about disability in Europe

Ensuring a better lifestyle for people with disabilities is an objective that at CEIPES we continue to pursue strongly, to improve the quality of life of the disabled we engage daily in projects that allow us to provide practical solutions to everyday life.

The support of the European community and our international partners is essential for achieving this goal. And it is with similar ideas that our Turkish colleagues from the Sinop Spastik Çocuklar Derneği association requested our collaboration within the Europe and Disability project.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Analyze the perception that people with disabilities in Turkey have on EU processes regarding the aspect of the rights of the disabled,
  • Demonstrate to people with disabilities the potential positive effect of European Union processes on the rights of the disabled,
  • Promote collaboration between the EU and Turkish CSOs dealing with disabilities

To achieve these objectives, Reports have been developed, available in several languages (here), which highlight the benefits of EU policies in the lives of people with disabilities.

In the first report, in addition to a history of European legislation regarding the issue of disability, it is possible to find a list of key initiatives for improving the social inclusion of people with disabilities such as the disability platform, disability cards, funding and European days dedicated to disability.

The second report focuses on the strengths and shortcomings regarding the rights of people with disabilities in Italy and partner countries, with the inclusion of good examples of EU contributions for people with disabilities. The report includes issues or compliance between partner country governments and disability authorities. Also mentioning people’s perception of EU support mechanisms.

The project, now almost at his end, also provides for the holding of meetings with the inclusion of stakeholders interested in disability policies.
