Dance Against Bullying (DAB) – Project Number 2019-1-FR02-KA205-015856 – aims to contribute to the struggle against bullying among young people using the tools of contemporary dance and developing an innovative methodology. Thus, DAB will integrate already existing good practices with a new approach based on dance workshops bringing together youth workers and young people to unite in the fight against bullying.
The main objectives of the project are:
- To tackle bullying behaviour among young people;
Improve, with a new methodology, competencies and knowledge of youth workers;
- To promote the use of dance as a tool to tackle bullying, through the development of a White Paper, a web-portal with video lessons and the implementation of dance workshops;
- To promote the values of inclusion, non-discrimination and equity;
- To promote methods of non-formal education;
- To strengthen the international cooperation within the consortium of DAB’s project;
In order to fulfil the objectives of the project, it is necessary to understand the situation regarding bullying in each of the partner countries, and to provide a background to the in-depth needs-analysis. All partners conducted research on the topic, including a legislative definition, current scene, statistics, measures for addressing and preventing bullying and good practices in this field in their own country.
Further, policy and document analysis were conducted, as well as quantitative and qualitative survey research. This survey targeted two groups: young people at school and youth workers. Both questionnaires aimed at outlining the current situation and understanding the bullying phenomena in the 5 countries, by collecting data from those people, who have different roles and perspectives about the situation.
This regarded the use of non-formal techniques and methods by youth workers in the respective partner countries, and their background, qualifications, and needs in relation to their professional development.
Based on the findings of the survey, a learning outcome framework and syllabus was created, intended for the training of youth workers according to the method of the project. Further, the results show the necessity of new effective and innovative methodologies for tackling bullying.
More training courses and highly qualified specialists in the area are also required for the implementation of an integrated approach to successfully address the problem. Dancing activities have a significant potential as an anti-bullying method and address the identified needs for an approach based on teamwork, sharing, and reduced competition among peers.
