The curriculum and list of chess skills to develop through the training 

CHED – Chess platform for deaf people” is a KA2 Erasmus+ project (project number: 613577-EPP-1-2019-1-RO-SPO-SCP) is a project which aims to teach chess to deaf people, in order to promote their inclusion and self-confidence in the sport world.  

To do that, the Consortium created specific training tools, among which an interactive platform in each sign language of the countries part of the project and chess scenarios. The training has been planned through the identification of a curriculum and of lists of skills to develop, which are divided in initiation, basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Besides, these are the third project result, preceded by the EU report and nationals ones, of which you can read here.  

In the curriculum are explained the performance criteria and specific skills of the various chess strategies, while what have been addressed in the lists of skills are: 

  • Chessboard and chess pieces 
  • Use of rules for moving and capturing chess pieces 
  • Tactical and strategic procedures 
  • Soft and personal skills 

The lists of skills have been translated in written and Sign languages, as already said, of all countries: Italy, Ireland, Armenia, Turkey, Poland, Greece and Romania. The SL video are available in the chess platform and on YouTube, divided in initiation level, basic level, intermediate and advanced level.
