On 10 – 11 February 2022, the Kick-Off Meeting (KOM) of the project “CAMPLUS: Empowerment for migrants – from camps to integration” was hosted in Paris by the CMA and due to the COVID-19 emergency, the meeting assumed a mixed form both in presence and online. The KOM was a great moment of sharing and confrontation where all the partners have the opportunity to understand the initial steps to take in order to implement the activities of the project.

The Camplus project rises from the aim to deal differently with the question of the inclusion of migrants or displaced persons. It is based on a study of the needs identified on the ground, in Europe and outside Europe, confirming the idea that the inclusion of migrants could be prepared in the camps themselves. Indeed, many of them want to act, participate, prepare for a better future. The will is also to make it possible to change the way in which all of us perceived specific places and situations. The project is a ‘’research-action’’ project, which should lead to training-action to train the professionals who will go to the camps to provide training and support sessions to project developers. This action is intended to be innovative because it is outside known models and wants to return to a bottom-up approach. The project will include two stages of the training organized in two camps, in Greece in Larissa (Thessaly) and near Erbil (Iraqi Kurdistan) will allow the entire process to be validated and reproduced in other camps for migrants or displaced persons.

For this purpose, the partnership aims to develop the following Intellectual Outputs:

IO1: Toolbox that will bring together a set of documents and manuals allowing adult trainers to appropriate the specific theme of migrant learners / living in a camp, and thus to support emerging projects, from the idea to the realization

IO2: Training module based on action research, through the development of innovative methods in terms of monitoring and learning paths and the acquisition of soft skills, with a view to supporting the emancipation of adult learners.

IO3: E-learning Platform in order to develop a form of learning that helps and accompanies learners through the media and other content made available to learners in total autonomy, since learners can manage, at their convenience and pace, access to digital media.

The KOM began with a brief introduction of the partnership organizations, going ahead with a general introduction of the project and the related organizational work plans. The development of Intellectual Outputs is the guideline to achieve the specific goals of the project related to the development of soft skills for the target group, including personal development, leadership, self-confidence, autonomy, the ability to work in a team (etc) implementing the learning received and valuing the contribute to resilience.

During the next months, the partners will meet for a discussion, to get into the heart of the project and begin to structure the following activities.
