Project name: “Bio-Inspired STEM topics for engaging young generations”

Project number: (2019-1-DE03-KA201-060125)

Duration: 30 months

Coordinator: KIT- Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany)

Financed by: Erasmus+ programme, KA201 – Strategic Partnerships for school education

Partners: KIT- Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany), CEIPES – Centro Internazionale per la promozione dell’educazione e lo sviluppo (Italy), Unipa – Università degli studi di Palermo (Italy), ADYMEM – Adıyaman Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü (Turkey), KTU – Kaunas University of technology (Lithuania).

On the 2nd and 3rd of December 2019, the kick-off meeting (KOM) of BioS4You” project took place in Palermo in Ceipes’ office.

The Kick-off meeting was a great opportunity to learn about the various expertise of the partners involved and for exchanging good practices regarding the implementation of the project. The day was set up according to a clear agenda, the overall project was presented by the coordinator in its activities, responsibilities and time schedule.

BioS4You project aims to engage new generations, through formal and non-formal education and active-learning activities, in STEM subjects by introducing them to the bio-inspired technologies, to both the biologically inspired engineering and the scientific innovations, new treatments, technology and processes that could make a real difference in improvement of life and environment.

Specifically, the main goal of BioS4You to realise various actions for STEM educators and support programs for young people, and young women in particular focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, starting from the idea to relieve them of the fear and insecurity of these topics and to encourage them to the study of their subjects.

From this main objective there are several specific objectives and products to develop during the implementation of the project:

IO1- RESEARCH ON HOW TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING BRING STEM TO LIFE AND VICEVERSA

IO2 – BioS4You e-LEARNING PLATFORM

IO3 – BioS4You METHODOLOGY AND TEACHING/LEARNING UNITS DESIGN

IO4 – COLLECTION OF BIO-INSPIRED TEACHING/LEARNING UNITS EFFECTIVE IN STEM EDUCATION

IO5 – PILOT PHASE THROUGH FORMAL, NON-FORMAL AND INFORMAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES, EUR ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

During the second day of the meeting, thanks to the University of Palermo, a very interesting visit to physics laboratories was organised. It was an opportunity for the consortium partner to get to know the activities that the University of Palermo promotes and it is carrying out in the scientific, physical engineering and technological fields.

In the coming months our partners will be involved in analysing the state of the art and the needs of the target group of the project both at national and European level. This analysis will be the basis for subsequent developments.

The next transnational meeting will be in Karlsruhe on the 29th and on the 30th September 2020.
