Italia, Spagna, Armenia, Turchia, Estonia, Francia, Grecia, Polonia, Romania, Ungheria e Portogallo.

Italy, Spain, Armenia, Turkey, Estonia, France, Greece, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Portugal. These are the 11 countries that participated in the International Seminar YOU.CO.DE, which was held in Palermo, December 14th to 20th. Experts from the field met to discuss issues such as active participation of young people in society, sense of community and the different perspectives for its development and how young people can have a major role with the implementation of concrete actions.

In order to achieve that different methodologies of non-formal education were applied that allowed participants to meet, exchange ideas, theories and experiences and they also got a chance to debate about various topics. The background of the presents and their stories of active citizens have been explored with experiences of theatre of the oppressed, creating space for creativity by means of art and using inspiring videos. A space for reflection was created both in the small and the large groups that also supported the debate about what factors may facilitate or hinder the participation of young people for the sake of changing the society.

All participants were actively involved, with the support of the staff and the other facilitators, in activities that range from networking between organizations to the exchange of good practices,. Simulating writing the script of a film, for example, we asked ourselves what we mean by community, how someone creates it and how somebody may feel being part of it. By staging an international conference with all the stakeholders playing in a community, we looked for connections that could lead to its development.

The Open Space Technology that lasted one day long, was also enabling all participants to share their experiences and their interests into the related fields, creating discussion groups where they exchanged success factors and difficulties in the management of youth projects and in their inclusive approach of the different facets of society.
The fourth day was devoted to an event which was open to the community of Palermo, in Sicily, during which many organizations, along with the foreign ones, were able to learn about projects that are being carried out in different places: a good way to exchange ideas for the future. In the afternoon there were instead carried out field visits to various projects of Palermo, like Borgo Vecchio Factory, Palermo Youth Center, Libera Palermo and Sguardi Urbani, then giving chance to all interested young people to look at the city with new eyes and discover closely the network of local associations.

Finally, one of the important moments of the seminar was the composition of working groups for the creation of a toolkit that can be used in the training course to be held in April and will be available to all interested organizations soon. The idea is that the network of young people who commit themselves every day to make this world better can be expanded more and more, creating a map of the active projects in different countries, where more and more young people can be involved.
