E’ in corso la seconda fase di Mandala – Meeting is an art, il progetto a lungo termine che crede nell’arte come strumento che facilita il dialogo interculturale e che contribuisce alla promozione dell’inclusione sociale.
“Together – United by Art” è il titolo dell’attività di implementazione locale della durata di 6 mesi che sta vedendo la partecipazione di 15 giovani di diversa nazionalità (Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Ghana, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone) residenti a Palermo, insieme a 100 studenti di scuole medie e superiori. Quest’ultimi parteciperanno ai workshops facilitati dai giovani migranti con il supporto dello staff del Ceipes.
L’attività è iniziata lo scorso maggio, con un corso di formazione della durata di tre giorni che ha avuto l’obiettivo di stimolare e sviluppare le competenze dei giovani nella promozione e nella protezione dei diritti umani, del dialogo interculturale, della leadership e nella facilitazione di attività formative, in vista del loro futuro ruolo di facilitatori con i gruppi di studenti nei mesi di settembre e ottobre 2017.
L’utilizzo di tecniche e metodi attivi dell’educazione non formale, a partire dalla conoscenza del gruppo, ha contribuito allo sviluppo di un percorso di apprendimento partecipato e autentico sulle dinamiche dell’intercultura e dell’inclusione sociale, dei pregiudizi e degli stereotipi.
Durante l’attività di Teambuilding, i partecipanti sono stati chiamati ad affrontare una “mission impossible”: rappresentare il gruppo Together attraverso una danza tipica, un inno, le regole condivise, un rito, un simbolo, una foto collettiva. Ciò ha permesso ai partecipanti di conoscersi in quanto singoli e di fondarsi in quanto gruppo, sperimentando, sia le dinamiche della cooperazione e della condivisione delle responsabilità sia i processi di coesistenza e incontro tra culture.
Il carattere eterogeneo, che contraddistingue il gruppo di lavoro, è emerso durante tutto il corso di formazione, consentendo ai partecipanti di attivare un percorso di conoscenza di sè e dell’altro, da un punto di vista culturale, sociale, delle idee. Forum Theater, discussioni in piccoli gruppi e strumenti grafico-manuali, hanno altresì fatto emergere le rappresentazioni soggettive sulle dinamiche comportamentali socio-culturali “esclusive”, riscontrabili nella vita quotidiana, facendo luce su ciò che genera discriminazione e su ciò che invece può promuovere inclusione.
Parallelamente, i ragazzi hanno ragionato sul meta-apprendimento, sui metodi e sulle tecniche di facilitazione che nel frattempo stavano sperimentando come partecipanti, aprendo spazi di riflessione in cui rivedersi, in seguito, nel ruolo di facilitatori.
Successivamente al corso di formazione, i ragazzi, in piccoli gruppi e attraverso cooperative learning, hanno iniziato a disegnare le attività da svolgere insieme agli studenti nelle scuole, partendo da interessi personali verso le più svariate forme d’arte.
Musica e Canto, Danza, Teatro: questi sono i tre ambiti artistici nel quale i partecipanti, divisi in gruppi , implementeranno i loro laboratori.
Durante l’incontro di preparazione,ciascun gruppo ha iniziato ad elaborare la propria attività, finalizzata a fare emergere le diversità di ciascuno, a valorizzarle e a promuovere il dialogo interculturale attraverso l’arte.
Durante i workshop nelle scuole sarà altresì promossa la campagna No hate speech, iniziativa promossa dal Consiglio d’Europa e sostenuta da movimenti nazionali, che mira a combattere il razzismo, la discriminazione e ogni forma di violenza e odio nelle loro espressioni online.
L’intervento darà un impulso, non solo al percorso di crescita dei giovani che, da facilitatori e da partecipanti, saranno direttamente coinvolti, ma anche al sistema scolastico che avrà l’opportunità di incontrare e mescolarsi con il mondo learning by doing dell’educazione non formale.
Le attività riprenderanno a settembre con i laboratori a scuola. Il gruppo Together è pronto a diffondere l’arte del fare inclusione sociale!

The second phase of Mandala – Meeting is an art is in progress; it’s a long-term project that believes in art as a tool that facilitates intercultural dialogue and contributes to the promotion of social inclusion.
“Together – United by Art” is the the local implementation activity of six months, involving 15 participants of different nationalities (Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Ghana, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone), living in Palermo, with 100 middle and high school students; these will participate in the facilitated workshops of young migrants with the support of Ceipes staff.
The activity started last May, with a training course of three days, that aimed to stimulate and develop the skills of young people in the promotion and protection of human rights, intercultural dialogue, leadership and facilitating training activities, in preparation for their future role as facilitators with groups of students in the months of September and October 2017.
The use of non-formal education techniques and active methods, starting from the mutual knowledge of the group, has contributed to the development of an involved and authentic learning pathway, on the dynamics of intercultural and social inclusion, prejudices and stereotypes.
During the Team-building activity, the participants had to face a “Mission Impossible”: to represent Together group, through a typical dance, a hymn, shared rules, a ritual, a symbol and a collective photo. This allowed the participants to know themselves as individuals and to found themselves as a group, experiencing both the dynamics of cooperation and sharing of responsibilities and the coexistence processes and meeting of cultures
The heterogeneity, which distinguishes the working group, emerged throughout the training course, allowing participants to enable a path of knowledge of self and the other, from a cultural point of view, a social one and on ideas. Forum Theater, group discussions and manual-graphic tools also revealed the subjective representations about the social-cultural dynamics of “exclusive” behavior, detectable in everyday life, highlighting what creates discrimination and what can promote inclusiveness.
At the same time, the group thought about meta-learning, methods and techniques of facilitation that, in the meantime, were experimenting as participants, opening up space for reflection in which to later see themselves as facilitators.
After the training course, the participants, divided into small groups and through the cooperative learning, began to draw the activities to be done together with students in schools, starting from personal interests to the most varied forms of art.
Music and Singing, Dance, Theater: these are the three artistic fields in which participants, divided into groups, will implement their workshops.During the preparation meeting, each group began to develop their own activities, aimed at bringing out the diversity of each, enhancing it and promoting intercultural dialogue through art.
During the workshops in schools, it will be also promoted the campaign No hate speech, an initiative promoted by the Council of Europe and supported by national movements, which aims to face racism, discrimination and all form of violence and hate in their online expressions
The project will give a boost not only to the path of growth of young people who, as facilitators and participants, will be directly involved, but also to the school system that will have the opportunity to meet and mix with the learning by doing world of non-formal education.
The activities will resume in September with workshops at school. The Together group is ready to spread the art of social inclusion!
