Context of the project

A lot of change took place in our society’s structure, our children are growing up and are blossoming  inside a multicultural society. We are confronted with an increasingly multi-faceted population. From different culture, religion and ethnic background, the very young children learn to participate actively into the cosmopolite environment. They need to develop the understanding, skills and outlook necessary to ensure that the society becomes truly inclusive. This process can’t be executed without the support of VET Trainers who are the first to set up in the childcare centre a new type of social cohesion. In fact, only they can develop the awareness, insights and skills to implement an inclusive diversity and equality programme with the objective of ensuring all children are protected from discrimination and encouraged to express their diversity.

The project’s start from the consideration that it’s necessary to give the possibility to the VET Trainers  to make a first work experience abroad in a multicultural childcare centre. They will be able to grasp better the intercultural education’s issues, thanks to a personal experience of  cultural and linguistic change of scene. They can be sensitized to the national context ‘s diversities and the different educational practices. With the discovery of a new intercultural environment and new tools in their field, they could better identify the importance of their profession and the fight of the exclusion within the society.

The main objectives are:

1.       To acquire the professional competencies related with intercultural pedagogy specific of the childcare sector within an European dimension.

2.       Getting to know a new language, a new culture and way of living in a foreign country.

3.       To reflect on the personal experience of feeling foreign developing this way empathy and a deeper understanding of the migrant condition.

4.       To get to know new professional condition thanks to the confrontation with new colleagues and the exchange of work’s methodologies and activities in the childcare centre.

5.       To acquire autonomy in a new and foreign environment and to increase cross-cultural communication skills.

6.       To learn about the concept, methodologies and activities of intercultural education and to put them in practice.

7.       To develop skills on how to use the own intercultural experience and the knowledge of the different cultures to conceptualise new activities responding to needs of the intercultural education.

8.       to bring and apply news knowledge and comprehension on the diversity, equality and discrimination’s issues through interactive activities.

9.       to foster awareness about diversity and equality issues within the community in the local childcare.

10.   to support other childcare workers through peer to peer learning in developing a intercultural pedagogical approach in the childcare centre.

11.   To stimulate refection and debate among childcare professionals and families about discrimination and inclusion issues in the local childcare centre.

12.   to exchange practices and work experiences about diverse pedagogic strategies  with the view of responding better to the diversity and equality in the local community.

13.   To acquire and develop new experiences and approaches in the field of VET.
