 Priorities addressed

Project N°1: “Human rights and democracy: youth policy and youth work

promoting the core values of the Council of Europe”

1.1 To further develop and disseminate existing tools and resources on human

rights education with young people and children1, with a view to supporting

the role of youth work and youth NGOs in this area and promoting the Council

of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights

Education.

Project N° 2: “Living together in diverse societies: youth policy and youth

work promoting intercultural dialogue”

2.1 To develop tools and resources with a view to supporting intercultural youth

work in multicultural environments, involving in particular young migrants,

asylum seekers and internally displaced persons.

2.2 To support youth work in combating discrimination, racism, xenophobia, hate

speech and hate crimes.

2.4 To support the role of youth work and youth NGOs in addressing situations of

exclusion and discrimination of Roma young people.

Project title:

Human library: Fostering dialogue to combat discrimination and promote diversity

Themes:

 Aim and Objectives:

Aim: To combat discrimination and exclusion of minorities in Europe, contributing to create a more inclusive society where diversity is seen as richness and where equality in human rights and dignity of minorities is a reality, by means of empowering youth NGOs to take action through human library tool.

 Objectives:

1.     To prepare a group of 22 youth workers to use the human library tool.

2.     To address human library tool and issues of discrimination of minorities through a human rights perspective.

3.     To foster knowledge on minority issues in Europe, specifically on Roma, immigrants and refugees, among participants.

4.     To create a network of organizations actively engaged in human library activities.

5.     To organize an European event of human libraries (around 15 at the same time) against discrimination of minorities.

6.     To boost dialogue and understanding among “minorities” and “mainstream society” (outreach of 600 people).

7.     To contribute to overcome stereotypes and prejudices on minorities (Roma, immigrants and refugees).

8.     To increase knowledge in the local community on HR violations and discrimination suffered by minorities and foster empathy/solidarity towards minorities.

 Activities:

The project main activities will be a training course on the project themes (1st phase) and an event of human libraries around Europe (2nd phase).

 Dates of implementation

Training course – March 2013

Human libraries European event – June 2013

 Financial conditions

Participants in the training course will have 100% of food and lodging covered by the project. Plus they will have 2/3 or travel costs covered.

There will be a fee of 50€.

How to be a partner?

The project foresee 2 types of partners:

  • Core team partners – these partners will be involved in the preparation of the training and will have an active role in running the working programme
  • Sending partners – these partners will only send participants to the training

All partners will be requested to develop the project follow up and to take part in the European event of human libraries.
