Obiettivi

Project Number: 2017-2-TR01-KA105-047548

The project World Without Discrimination was thought due to the evident urgent need to tackle the issue of hate crimes in the current strained environment that shall affect at least more than one million newly arrived immigrants as well as other established minorities. The consortium believe that solution shall start with an effective, inclusive way of communication that is free from hate speech.  W.Di.W. project, therefore, aims at using the constructive power of language to shape positive ideas among youth on the principle of acceptance, respect and responsibility, for the final target of building a Europe “United in Diversity” as the official motto adopted in 2000.

In addition, hate speech violations are widely mistakenly believed to be part of the Freedom of Speech and Expression, and thus protected by Article 10 of the European Convention of Human Rights. Following consistent rulings of the European Court of Human Rights of such cases as “inadmissible”, it is necessary to clarify that hate speech is not a right, but a liability.

Eventually, more than one million immigrants may seem a formidable challenge to the EU’s integrating capacity, yet as long as there is transnational cooperation between the civil society, it shall no longer be insurmountable to integrate those immigrants that constitute only 2% of the Union’s population.

Objectives

W.Di.W.-A World Without Discrimination is a Training Course (A1) with diverse objectives attached to the Inclusive Growth target defined in “Europe 2020” Strategy. The activity will link youth organizations and NGOs from 8 programme and partner countries.

Objectives of the Training Course:

  • To create a European hub to share realities and challenges organisations face, and exchange good practices in combating discriminatory communication,
  • To diagnose different types of language-based discrimination across Europe, especially concerning migrants and refugees in online or offline context,
  • To develop guidelines for an inclusive, respectful language to be applied in various sectors of the society,
  • To raise awareness among youngsters on the fundamental role of fair, indiscriminating communication in uniting the society,
  • To highlight the fault line between the Freedom of Speech and Expression, and Hate Speech,
  • To develop appropriate  inclusive communication to be used among youth.

This opportunity will not only enhance participants’ knowledge and skills on the themes addressed, but will also provide them with tools to reflect on their own values and attitudes towards migrants and other minorities. Moreover, it will enable participants to broaden their personal and professional network as well as development. In terms of the intercultural dimension, the training will offer a rich context to get to know different cultures and realities –which now more than ever are need to be included but not suffocated.
