From 8th to 11th May 2015 our team member Irene Capozzi from the Youth Department from CEIPES will participate in the 1st Transnational kick-off meeting in The Hague, the Netherlands. The meeting will gather the researchers of all partner organizations involved in the project, who will exchange and top-up their competences in regards to monitoring, evaluation and learning (ME&L) in youth organizations.

The 16-months project “Youth Impact: Strengthening Organizational Capacities”(the project will lasts from 01.02.2015 till 01.06.2015) takes place in the frame of the UNOY Network. It is funded by the Eramus+ programme (Key Action 2) and the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.

In this project six youth organizations, CEIPES included, all working on peace education, will work together to research monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and create guidelines for youth organizations to embed MEL within their structures and processes.

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of youth organizations working on peace education in the areas of strategic development and organizational management in order to foster quality improvements in youth work in general, and youth peace education in particular and to promote young people’s active citizenship at European level in accordance to the EU Youth Strategy 2010 – 2018.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  1. To enhance the capacities of the partner organizations for strategic development by strengthening their monitoring, evaluation and learning processes;
  2. To gain in-depth understanding of European youth organization’s need for and use of monitoring, evaluation and learning processes;
  3. To develop functional guidelines for monitoring, evaluation and learning processes for youth organizations;

During the project, a research team composed of one person from each organization as well as an external lead researcher will carry out organizational assessments of all the partners. The assessments will be used to create a Research Report on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning in Six European Youth Organizations. The research report will be disseminated through the Young Peace builders Forum, an international multiplier event taking place in the Hague in October 2015.

On the basis of the research report, the organizational assessments, as well as the outcomes of discussions during the Young Peace builders Forum, each organization will create action plans for implementing stronger MEL processes. The research team will then compile Guidelines on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning for Youth Organizations. These guidelines will be disseminated widely, in particular to through multiplier events at the national level organized by each partner organization.

The result of the project will be increased quality in youth work carried out by youth-led organizations across Europe, through stronger MEL processes which enable the organizations to take a more strategic approach to their non-formal education activities.
