The Faculty of Education (Dept. Dismot) of University of Palermo, in collaboration with CEIPES, will hold from 17th to 22nd  September 2012 in Salina (Me), Italy the 6th Edition of International Summer School “Migrants, Human Rights and Democracy” . Topic of this Edition will be “Migrant Women”.

The 6th Edition of International Summer School “Migrants, Human Rights and Democracy” aims to provide advanced and specific methodological, cultural and professional knowledge and skills, general theory and concrete facts and implementations of problems and issues concerning Migrant Women.

To reach this goal the Summer School offers some specific workshops and round tables on submitted study researches or case-studies.  Edition 2012 will also participate in Salina Doc Fest an International documentary contest whose theme is Women and Mediterranean.

Summer School’s Programme will focus on topics concerning:

  • Living arrangements of migrant women in other life contexts
  • Gender identity and solidarity among migrant women
  •  Migrant women, sense of community, social network and social support
  • Diaspora and mobilities
  • Migrant women, motherhood and child-care
  • Migrant women, labour market and social capital: experiences and identities
  • Migrant women, transnational networks and remittances
  • Migrant women health

Organization

Workshops and round tables will take place in the morning and early afternoon from Monday to Friday. The Summer School applies a multidisciplinary approach and involves a continuous interaction between speakers and participants. Full-time attendance is required throughout the programme. A certificate of 3 ECTS attendance will be given to participants regularly attending lectures. Graduates, Doctoral students, PhDs and Academics are invited to submit proposals. The script should not exceed 7,000 words (including citations in Chicago style). Each participant will be given a 20 minute presentation followed by discussion. The session is open to listeners.

How to participate

It is possible to participate to Summer School as:

  • Contributors interested in presenting and publish their study research must submit a 500 word abstract of the proposed research and a brief academic CV (in Pdf format) to Elisabetta Di Giovanni  (email address:   elisabetta.digiovanni@unipa.it) by  20 June 2012. Please note in the subject line of your email “Summer School 2012 – Palermo University”. Notification of acceptance will be made by 1 July 2012. The selected applicants are invited to email their final work and pay the fee by 30 July 2012.
  • Applicants who are not interested in presenting a study research but only want to follow the entire Summer School courses should submit by email a request of application and a short CV (in Pdf format) to Elisabetta Di Giovanni (email address: elisabetta.digiovanni@unipa.it) by 30 July 2012. Please note in the subject line of your email “Summer School 2012 – Palermo University”. Notification of acceptance will be made by 10 August 2012.
